Guitar master, Steve Vai, is back with a brand new album The Story of Light, out today. On “John the Revelator” we find Vai matched with the booming vocals of Beverly McClellan, who you may remember as a finalist from the TV show The Voice.

“John the Revelator” is a traditional, blues/gospel song that has been around for ages, made famous by Blind Willie Johnson’s recording. Vai’s version opens with a sample of the original, before McClellan’s voice cuts in and straight out knocks you down along with a monstrous riff from Vai.

The song tells the Biblical story of John writing the book of Revelation, so what we’re basically dealing with here, is some blues infused, Gospel doused, apocalyptic rock and roll, and it’s just as badassed as you would hope. Grab the download for free below, and then go get the rest of the album.
