“It’s still so dark because it’s till so early and the chipper little girlie at the front desk doesn’t mind at all,” sings our new favorite rock star, Jonathan Coulton, on his song “Good Morning Tucson.”
He’s talking about a) what it’s like to spend life on the road, b) what it’s like to be a morning newscaster, c) what it’s like to be a jelly donut or d) some three-headed mix of both. (We’re betting on Letter “D”.)
We expect no less from this former computer-programming Yale grad whose internet-fueled success has drawn comparisons to the Snuggie. With a resume that includes songs about geeks and politicians, weird science and cybernetic arms, we think the Snuggie is a distant second.
“Good Morning Tucson” is from Coulton’s new album Artificial Heart, the eighth in a string that started with 2003’s Smoking Monkey. It was coincidentally, produced by TMBG’s John Flansburgh.
