F. Stokes is on a mission to get his words out there and isn’t taking no for an answer. He’s not interested in the bling-bling rap lifestyle, he just believes in music’s power to help people. His new single, “My Simple” is an ode to the decidedly unglamorous life of of living in a small town and living a wholesome life. It may be simple, but it’s in a good way.
Born on the South side of Chicago and raised in Madison, Wisconsin by his single mother, F. Stokes has an appreciation for the “simple life” – it was something he never had. He sold drugs and carried a gun as a teenager and is not proud of it, he did it to survive. Now he puts that same energy into his music. It’s do or die for him.
In an interview with YRB Magazine F. Stoke said, “What defines me as a man is I’m willing at any moment to go homeless for this dream. I am willing at any moment to drop everything I have, absolutely, right now – I don’t care about what girl I’m with, I don’t care where I stay, I don’t care about what’s in my pocket – to join a tour that I’m not paid for. Right now, period.”
F. Stokes‘ passion comes through in his words, he’s an eloquent guy and he has something to say. He has struggled for what he has, trying to reach his dream, but his music has come from that struggle. As any well traveled person can tell you – it’s about the journey, not the destination.
