With their upcoming album, Divine Providence, we hear Deer Tick add even more pots and pans to the musical dishwater they’ve been soaking in since John McCauley invented the band in 2004.

Listening to “Miss K,” we laugh, we sing along and then we wonder if new wave is back in vogue.

On “Miss K.,” it’s a straightforward acoustic guitar and electric piano groove that speaks loudly of the late-’70s Nick Lowe songbook, while guitarist Ian McNeil’s vocals remind us of Steve Forbert in his Jackrabbit Slim years.

And, we just love the lyrics — “wrap your loving arms around me, talk dirty, turn me on, lets get going” — words Elvis Costello would’ve killed for back before he was infected with a case of Burt Bacharach.

We hear the new album is a killer, like Harry Nilsson remaking Exile On Main Street with Dave Grohl playing guitar. It releases October 25 so go pre-order it here.
