Unlike most songs we offer as our Free MP3 of the Day, this cut is vintage–from all the way back in 1964. It was recorded well before Bibbe Hansen gave birth to her famous “loser” son, but it sounds almost retro-hip enough to have been recorded this morning.

Bibbe Hansen is a musician, performance artist and former actress best known for being among the many artistes who hung with Andy Warhol during the 1960s. Along with appearing in a number of his movies (such as Restaurant10 Beautiful Girls10 More Beautiful Girls), she was a dancer at many of the Velvet Underground‘s early shows and a member of the Whippets, a tongue-in-cheek girl group that included Jan Kerouac.

There’s something delightfully sloppy about this record, a dirty, reverb-laden homage to girl groups like the Shirelles, but with a touch of Andy-inspired schtick.

And, in case you’ve not figured it out, Bibbe’s “loser” son is perpetually pastiche purveying Beck (Hansen).
