Pop whiz Ben Rector has been wowing everyone with his debut album Something Like This. In its first week of its release this past fall, the album jumped to #4 on the iTunes charts bypassing the likes of Lil Wayne and Foster the People – not bad for an independent artist! For a taste of Rector’s unabashedly fun and positive music, check out single “She Is.”
Like many kids, piano lessons were Ben Rector’s introduction to making music but it was the guitar that inspired his career. Joining some high school friends, Rector formed Euromart, a successful act that recorded an EP and played gigs around his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
With graduation came college and a new musical at adventure at the University of Arkansas. While honing his business chops as a marketing major, Rector became the youngest person to ever win a John Lennon Songwriting Contest, just 20-years old when he swept the pop category.
“She Is” features many of the sonic elements that have become Ben Rector’s calling cards – catchy piano melodies, insightful lyrics and his full, powerful voice. The song is an ode to a girl who “hails from Boston” who is the woman of Rector’s dreams.
