Popular social media video app Vine has been the place to find raw, undiscovered talent over the year or so it’s been around. Many pop-artist-wannabes upload six-second clips to their profiles to promote themselves, and more than ever, these unknowns are being snatched up by major record labels. Case in point: 15-year-old Shawn Mendes, a young Canadian singer, has just been signed to Island Records: a division of Universal. And his debut single, “Life Of The Party”, is really taking off.

His lyric video is already on its way to a million views — thanks to the support of his Vine followers — and there’s no doubt that discovering new talent on the app is a hot trend right now. Mendes is already set to tour with fellow teen heartthrob, Austin Mahone, and is scheduled to release his debut LP by the end of the year.

Shawn Mendes also holds the title  the youngest artist to debut in the top 25 with a debut song on the Billboard Hot 100. Way to go, Shawn!
