[pullquote quote=”We think they sound like a well-rounded Nineties indie rock mixed tape.” credit=”Rolling Stone”]Young British indie-rockers [lastfm]Yuck[/lastfm] will be among the hundreds of acts to grace the stages at this year’s South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas (March 16-20, 2011). Though the average age of the group about 20 years old, it’s clear that they’ve been heavily influenced by the shoe-gazers of the early ’90s, who were big when the members of Yuck were probably just learning about the man on the sticker that they would one day identify with. The influence of [lastfm]Pavement[/lastfm], [lastfm]Sonic Youth[/lastfm] and [lastfm]My Bloody Valentine[/lastfm] is clear in the group’s sound, but Yuck brings their own energy and song-writing skills to the table. The result is a collection of fuzzy, catchy gems that would satisfy the biggest shoe-gaze craving.

Vocalist/Guitarist and song writer Daniel Blumberg has been in the business since the age of 15, when his first band, Cajun Dance Party, which included Yuck lead guitarist Max Bloom on bass, was signed to XL records. CDP’s first single, ‘The Next Untouchable”, received great reviews but the band soon broke up, leaving fans to wonder what could have been. Three short years later, Yuck arrived, with bassist Mariko from Hirroshima, and drummer Jonny, who met Blumberg in Israel. Blumberg’s sister Ilana has contributed backing vocals as well.
