This week, we’re highlighting record labels who lost inventory in the Sony/PIAS warehouse, that was destroyed by a fire during the recent London riots. Today, we’re taking a look at Jagjaguwar.
Jagjaguwar is an indie rock label based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Home today to notable acts like Dinosaur Jr, Bon Iver and Okkervil River, the label specializes in modern-day Americana. Their stock at the warehouse of Sony/PIAS, the largest distributor of music in the UK and Ireland, was destroyed along with the CDs and records of more than 150 other independent record labels.
For many of the smaller labels, the loss of this inventory is irreparable. In addition to the issue the music industry is already facing, this catastrophe makes things even harder for the independent labels.
You – the fan, the listener, the free-mp3-downloader – can play an important part in helping those labels affected, and it is easy to do so: buy music. Digital and direct from the label is the fastest way to help.
To whet your whistle, here’s an MP3 from Jagjaguwar’s Bon Iver, but please don’t stop here. Show your support for the labels you love and buy something!
