Whether you agree with the Recording Academy or not, the GRAMMY Awards do give closure to the past year in music. And, anytime an indie-name star gets a nod, we can’t help but cheer.

In preparation for the GRAMMY Nominations Concert on Nov. 30th 2011 (10pm ET/9pm CT on CBS), this whole week we’re highlighting GRAMMY Award-winning artists as well our friends who are still GRAMMY-less,  plus a few other cool surprises. Did we mention all come with a Free MP3?

The GRAMMY Nominations Concert will once again be hosted by [mp3com-artist]LL Cool J[/mp3com-artist].  In addition to performances from [mp3com-artist]Rihanna[/mp3com-artist], [mp3com-artist]The Band Perry[/mp3com-artist], [mp3com-artist]Usher [/mp3com-artist]and [mp3com-artist]Lady Gaga[/mp3com-artist], nominees in several of the categories will be announced at the show.

So until we reach the big night on TV, dig some of the music from recent nominees and past winners! We sure did.

Naughty By Nature

In 1996 New Jersey’s own rap trio [mp3com-artist]Naughty By Nature[/mp3com-artist] won an award for Best New Rap Album. Known for hits like the “O.P.P” and “Hip Hop Hooray,” the hip hop legends return with their long awaited 20th anniversary album Anthem Inc. The electronic pioneer has been nominated for several GRAMMYs in various categories including Best Alternative Performance for his unstoppable album Play, Best Instrumental Rock Performance for Body Rock as well as many others. Here’s hoping this year he’ll get nod for his recent album Destroyed.

In 2008  he garnered his first-ever GRAMMY nomination in the “Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical)”  category for his remix of [mp3com-artist]Madonna [/mp3com-artist] featuring [mp3com-artist]Justin Timberlake[/mp3com-artist]’s “4 Minutes.” The song appeared on her chart-topping album Hard Candy.
