Back when Robin Thicke’s smash single “Blurred Lines” began to gain popularity, the family of the late Marvin Gaye went vocal about how the song’s music was very similar to Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up”. They went forward with a lawsuit, and as it progressed, the claim was dismissed. However, new claims are coming forward from the family, stating that Thicke also copied a copyright infringement with his song “Love After War”, based off of Gaye’s “After The Dance”.

The Gaye family is  going after the publishing side of record label EMI, stating that the label breached a contract by not protecting Gaye’s songs, intimidating the family against filing legal action, and staying neutral when faced with a conflict of interest. The Gayes desire EMI to lose all their profits on “Blurred Lines” as well as rights to govern the song catalog of Gaye.

The world is still waiting on hearing responses from Robin Thicke’s team. The singer went on the record earlier in the year that stated he wanted a single that sounded just like Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give it Up”, but then retracted his statement after the beginning of the scandal in August.

Lyrically, the songs don’t really bear many similarities (see here and here to compare), but maybe there’s something to be said for their sonic similarities. What do you think? Give us your take in the comments.
