UK singer/songwriter James Blake's 2013 album Overgrown was one of the year's most well-reviewed releases, with songs like "Life Round Here" and "Retrograde" showcasing his expert lyricism, production, and singing skills. He recently received one of the highest honors in the British music scene, by taking home the 2013 Mercury Prize award for his stunning album. "Well, I lost a bet… on the other hand, I should thank a couple of people", stated Blake upon receiving the award, says NME. Accepting the award during the ceremony at London's Roundhouse Theatre on Oct. 30th, where he was hilariously mistakenly introduced as James Blunt when the prize was announced. Other big artists up for the award were Disclosure with their hit electronic-based album Settle, as well as the legendary David Bowie and his new record The Next Day. The Mercury Prize celebrates the best music from the UK and Ireland, and has been awarding artists since 1992.
