Album Cover: Soft Moon (Captured Tracks)

Call it post-rock or just good ol’ shoegaze, albeit with a experimental flair. Either way, San Francisco’s The Soft Moon has one eye on the future while the other searches for new ways to zigzag between darkwave and EBM (electronic body music).

On their self-titled album, the band bring the melodrama of Bauhaus, the ache of Joy Division, and its very own wit and talent to richly dark depths. Moody, brooding, and visceral, it’s like discovering a long-lost recording.

Before you download a free MP3 of “Tiny Spiders,” preview some of my other favorite tracks off the album, specifically the Joy Division-esque “Breathe The Fire,” the shoegaze sizzle of “Circles,” and the echoing guitars somewhat akin to melancholy-era New Order in “When It’s Over.”
