Shabazz Palaces

If you were into the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Digable Planets[/lastfm] in the ’90s and have a soft spot for avant-garde, word-play from rappers like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Antipop Consortium[/lastfm], chances are good that you’ll appreciate [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Shabazz Palaces[/lastfm]. Led by Palaceer Lazaro aka Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, formerly of the alt-rap trio Digable Planets, this Seattle hip-hop collective doesn’t quite capture the same bouncy spirit found in the jazz-soul influenced sounds of Digable Planets. Instead you’ll find his next-level of rapping creating more of journey for its listener, rather than a groove. If you like your music with a sci-fi touch (think [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Company Flow[/lastfm]), then this is a hip-hop artist to keep an eye on.

The band has announced a new album called Black Up slated for release May 31st, 2011 on Sub Pop Records. You can download a free song called “An Echo From The Hosts That Profess Infinitum” for the price of an e-mail below.
