Montreal-based dream-pop quartet [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Young Galaxy[/lastfm] tries something new on its forthcoming album Shapeshifting (out in Feb 2011) by enlisting [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dan Lissvik[/lastfm] of the Swedish nu-disco duo [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Studio[/lastfm] to produce. Unlike anything the band has done before (they’re more known for their brand of dramatic art-rock), the group has released a free MP3 of “Peripheral Visionaries,” an intimate, slow disco number with sweet vocals that groove but won’t blast you out of your socks.
Citing [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]New Order[/lastfm],[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Knife[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eurythmics [/lastfm] as influences for the new sound, the “Peripheral Visionaries” will appeal to those looking for that same sort of theme–one that’s sexy with lots of synths and bass, creating a more dance-rock vibe.
Before you download the new single, check out one of my personal favorite remixes from Dan Lissvik transforming the eerie sounds of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Fever Ray[/lastfm]’s “When I Grow Up.” It’s a good one!
