Every Michael Jackson No. 1 Hit, Ranked

The King of Pop died nearly a decade ago, but the music he left never will.

Michael Jackson would’ve turned 60 on Aug. 29. When the 13-time, Grammy-winning star died in 2009, he left behind five decades’ worth of hits, from the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” beginnings to Invincible‘s Top 10 track, “You Rock My World,” with chart-topping “Bad,” “Beat It,” and “Billie Jean” moments in between.

Below we’ve ranked Jackson’s 13 solo No. 1 hits, racked up in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Five hail from Bad; two, from Thriller. We judged all the tracks on their ability to groove, their talent move us, and, we won’t lie, whether their music videos hold up. (Jackson, who was an MTV pioneer, would understand, we feel.)

Let’s get started.
