With Eminem’s highly-anticipated new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 due out November 5th, the rapper has been teasing the sound of the record with the Beastie Boys-inspired track “Berzerk” and the super-serious single “Survival”. Although it’s currently unreleased by the hip-hop legend, the latest song to come out from MMLP2 is one of Slim Shady’s most ambitious to date, titled “Rap God”.

Over a piano-driven trap beat, the six-minute-long track has Em claiming “I’m beginning to feel like a Rap God, Rap God / All my people from the front to the back nod, back nod” in the song’s hook, and the lyrics that Slim spews go back to his controversial days. When Eminem first broke out on the scene in the late 90’s, he was well-known for his lyrics that included explicit material like violence against women and homophobia. He brings this back in “Rap God”, which has made people talk negatively about the rapper all over again.

Does Eminem get away with this kind of lyrical content now that he’s been in the business for 14 years or so? Despite the negative comments, Em still has a devoted set of fans, and it seems that no matter what he does, his followers will buy his music.
