The ’80s. Perhaps music’s greatest, most totally awesome decade.
And, with any outpouring of great songs, the ’80s gave us a hearty helping of one-hit wonders.
Now, what exactly is a one-hit wonder? Technically, the status is achieved when an artist enjoys a top spot on the charts (to be very specific, the top 10 of the Billboard 200) only to never reach such status again.
Widely, though, a one-hit wonder is understood as any artist who becomes wildly popular for a brief time. A handful of singles shoot them to super-stardom, but they’re off the charts in the blink of an eye.
The appeal of their music may not have lasted, but ’80s artists like Bertie Higgins, Terence Trent D’Arby and Samantha Fox are still stars in our eyes.
