The ’80s. Perhaps music’s greatest, most totally awesome decade.

And, with any outpouring of great songs, the ’80s gave us a hearty helping of one-hit wonders.

Now, what exactly is a one-hit wonder? Technically, the status is achieved when an artist enjoys a top spot on the charts (to be very specific, the top 10 of the Billboard 200) only to never reach such status again.

Widely, though, a one-hit wonder is understood as any artist who becomes wildly popular for a brief time. A handful of singles shoot them to super-stardom, but they’re off the charts in the blink of an eye.

The appeal of their music may not have lasted, but ’80s artists like Bertie Higgins,¬†Terence Trent D’Arby and Samantha Fox are still stars in our eyes.
