A high quality iPod speaker - isn't that an oxymoron? Perhaps once, but with introduction of Arcam's rCube it's not always the case. Portable iPod speakers have never been known for their audio quality. Traditionally aimed at the younger demographics who used iPods the most, these products emphasized convenience and low cost. However, now that everyone and their grandmother have iPods, it makes sense that a higher quality product like the rCube would come along. The rCube measures just 7.9 inches per side and weighs 11 pounds but puts out plenty of power for its relatively compact size. It has an elegant design and has an upscale finish that mirrors the simplicity of an iPod. There are only five touch-sensitive buttons (source select, wireless on/off, volume up and down, and standby) arranged in front of the flip-up door that conceals the iPod dock and the speaker's carry handle. Billed as the "Portable iPod Speaker System," the battery (or AC) powered Arcam can go anywhere with you. At $499 it certainly isn't the cheapest option on the market, but for someone who is looking for all the convenience of a portable iPod speaker but doesn't want to sacrifice sound quality the Arcam rCube may be the perfect fit.
