Pleasing fans of Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Wire, alike is no small task; those bands are polar opposites in the post-rock sphere, representing the mainstream and the hardcore respectively. This longtime Scottish post-rock quintet has found devotees on both sides of the pit by joining sonic epics with a melodic sense. If you like your music vocal-less with long instrumental guitar-and-bass jams, Mogwai is offering up their latest single “San Pedro” from the forthcoming, and awesomely titled Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will released on February 15 via Sub Pop.
Veteran punk band Social Distortion returns this week with Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, the group’s seventh studio album and first release in over six years. After years of working with various producers, Mike Ness took this duty for the first time. The band entered a Burbank studio earlier this year where they recorded for the next several months–in-between tour dates–and in early October they wrapped up recording before again heading out on tour. The album isn’t due until January, 2011, but we have a free Mp3 of “Machine Gun Blues” for you right now–dig in!
As one of the most prolific metal bands, Coheed and Cambria get all heavy on us once again with “World of Lines.” Yeah it’s Monday, but forget about gently easing your way into the week. And if anyone says we’re too soft, show them this post.
Bristol-based trio Beak> features Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Billy Fuller (The Moles), and Matt Williams (Team Brick). With a dark psychedelic tone, “Wulfstan” sounds like something The Doors could have done on a late night in one room with no overdubs–which is exactly how Beak> recorded this.
In sync with the band’s 30th anniversary, Bad Religion will release The Dissent of Man on September 28th. If you can’t wait for the new album, listen to “The Devil In Stiches” below.
