Guest Playlist: Chicago Instrumental Rockers Pelican Share Favorite Nirvana Songs

The instrumental band Pelican may not be a household name, but they do leave in impression. The Chicago group weaves sonic tapestries in the post-metal fashion, but shows little patience for the genre’s largely ponderous rhythms. Pelican‘s drums are rambling and lively, which changes the very meaning of the songs.

The same applies when listening to the drum beats of Dave Grohl when he was with Nirvana. In this week’s MP3.com Spotlight we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind by gathering playlists from bands heavily inspired by the legendary group.

Yesterday we featured The Melvins, and today we feature the favorite Nirvana songs from Larry Herweg, drummer of Pelican–who also has an interesting story to share about Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
