We have one less 'problem' now that Ariana Grande has a new single, album title and release date, as well as the track list and names of featured artists! The diva's sophomore LP, My Everything, is coming out on August 25th, and her latest single, "Break Free", features EDM producer Zedd. It's a bit of a transition from her signature R&B/pop sound, but fans are going wild for it.
Congratulations are in order for UK singer Sam Smith, who is having a huge breakthrough in 2014 with the release of his debut album In The Lonely Hour. His smash single "Stay With Me" has been on everybody's mind (and lips) ever since it was released earlier this year, and this week, it's finally hit no.1 on the Digital Sales chart.
As one of 2013's biggest breakout stars, sisterly trio Haim have announced that fans don't have to wait that long for their sophomore release. Days Are Gone, which dropped last year, was highly-praised as an excellent debut from the LA-based family band, and while performing at Glastonbury Festival in the UK, member Alana Haim dropped hints at a new record to BBC 6 Music.
Congratulations are in order to Katy Perry, who has been named as the top-selling certified digital artist of all time! The "Roar" singer definitely has something to roar about: she reached 72 million cumulative Digital Single certifications, confirmed by the RIAA. The record before Katy broke it was at 70 million sales, to put things into perspective!
John Legend's heartfelt ballad "All of Me" has been burning up the charts, so much so that it has become the singer's most popular hit to date, landing him the coveted #1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart a few weeks back. That's quite an achievement for any song, but especially one that strays from those that we usually see at the top of the chart. "All of Me" is a love ballad with minimal instrumentation, much different than those that came before and after, like "Happy" & "Fancy" for instance. The story behind the song is that John wrote the "All of Me" lyrics for his then-fiancée Chrissy Teigen in a writing session with songwriter Toby Gad. The two musicians threw ideas around and came up with the song in under three hours, according to a Toby Gad interview. It's been widely reported that the first time John sang it for Chrissy, she broke down into tears. John would later perform the song at his own wedding to Chrissy, and then later at another set of nuptials, those of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian!
It's only been about a year since Robin Thicke dropped his last record, Blurred Lines, and now that his marriage with actress Paula Patton is on the fritz, he's gearing up to release yet another album to try and reconcile their relationship. Paula is due out July 1st, and it's filled with songs dedicated to his estranged wife. The lead single, "Get Her Back", makes it absolutely clear he wants to try and fix things, but the music video comes off as, well, a little creepy.
Even though Lady Gaga ft. R. Kelly's scandalous single "Do What U Want" dropped late last year on the charts, the song never came paired with a music video. Headlines claimed that controversial photographer and director Terry Richardson was behind the clip, and there were definitely plans to release it during the track's time on the charts, but it never came. Now, TMZ has apparently found the unreleased music video, and leaked a 30-second clip of it.
Maroon 5 are gearing up to release their fifth studio album, simply titled V, and just dropped the album's first single for the world to hear. And man, is it a contender for Song Of The Summer: "Maps" has a memorable guitar lick and those signature falsetto croons from lead singer Adam Levine.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on BBC's Radio 1, longtime rap/rock/country producer Rick Rubin confirmed he will be working with Kanye West yet again for part II of West's 2013 release Yeezus. The "Black Skinhead" rapper is planning on sending out the follow-up to his highly-praised sixth album by the end of the year, and, naturally, Rubin is on board as producer once again.
British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran is gearing up to release his second studio album, X, and he just dropped an earth-shattering audio track off the forthcoming LP, simply entitled "Don't". Rumours are flying that the biting kiss-off song is all about fellow UK pop star Ellie Goulding, who he apparently wooed during the summer of 2013.
