One of the classic downtown New York rock bands of the ’80s, They Might Be Giants are back with a new album, called Join Us. Featuring the irrepressible single “Can’t Keep Johnny Down,” Join Us is a return to their signature left field rock style featured on their early releases.
They Might Be Giants have always excelled at creating wacky pop music. During the past decade, they released four children’s albums – No!, Here Come The ABC’s, Here Come The 123′s and Here Comes Science – which might sound cheesy, until you actually hear how awesome these songs are. Kind of like a good Disney movie, they’re aimed at kids, but have enough going on that they are easily appreciated by adults.
“Can’t Keep Johnny Down” doesn’t have any educational themes, but it still is a great rock track and contains that element of universal appeal.
