The Matthews Brothers, one of our favorite folk duos from the Canadian countryside, are back for another encore with their song, “The Night We Left Home.”
“From Canada’s backwoods of rural decay & beaten barroom pianos, the Matthews Brothers grew up on folk music & formal training, headed off for university studies in music and have arrived back to the land from which they began.”
That’s how we introduced Cole and Mike Matthews back in October, the pair of brothers who are back in their Canadian home turning out great music from their rural-barn-turned-electronic-santuary.
On this cut, “The Night We Left Home,” we hear less of Mumford and Sons and more of beautiful balladry of the Jayhawks and another Canadian newcomer, Deep Dark Woods (whose tune, “West Side Street,” is also still available for download).
Breathe in the country air that blows in the door with this great record.
