Tucked away in our catalog, next to the empty bottles of beer and the licked-clean plates that held the best barbeque you’ve ever had, there’s this sweet little cut from the best band to ever come out of St. Louis.
Now almost 20 years into their existence, the Bottle Rockets are the standard-bearers for a brand of Southern rock that grew up with Uncle Tupelo and remains strong thanks to the Rockets.
Though live dates keep stacking up like those plates glazed with the essence of hot sauce and new recordings keep showing up in all the right places, the last full-on Rockets studio recording was Lean Forward, issued way back in 2009.
That’s where you’ll find this one called “The Long Way.” We could indulge in a whole long explanation of how they carry forward the eagle-eyed songwriting of Woody Guthrie and the balls-to-the-wall attack of the Replacements but, if you know the Bottle Rockets , you already know that.
