Sugar And The Hi Lows, “See It For Yourself”

Free MP3 of the Day

Looking back to a time “when one take was enough and an auto-tune was a thing you did to your ’55 Chevy,” Sugar and the Hi Lows dare you not to dance to our Free MP3 of the Day, “See It For Yourself.”

“My father used to make blanket statements like, ‘It’s not good if you can’t dance to it,’” remembers Trent Dabbs, one half of Sugar and the Hi Lows.

“The older that I got, I realized how that was kind of seeping into what I loved musically, and it just brings this joy, it brings this happiness,” Dabbs adds. “With the climate of everything right now – with the economy – you could write the most depressing songs ever, but I really feel like the world needs light; the world needs lighthearted.”

“We got talking about his dad and throwback music from the ‘50s and ‘60s and just like, ‘Why isn’t there that type of music now?’” recalls Amy Stroup, the prettier half of the pair.

With the purchase of an old box amp and a commitment to writing together, the pair commenced to jamming and immediately came up with “This Can’t Be The Last Time.”

“We weren’t really trying to treat it like a band,” explains Stroup. “We just wrote this series of songs, but they didn’t feel like an Amy Stroup song or an Amy and Trent duet. It really felt like its own thing.”

One of the best tracks from their self-titled debut album, “See It For Yourself” is the perfect combination of that throwback sound of the 50s (big fat hollow-body guitars, classic tube amps and plenty of reverb) melded with a message for today about how important it is to “see it for yourself.”

Our guarantee? Pull out your air guitar and your blue suede shoes. This band will make you dance.
