Shiny Toy Guns, “The Sun 2.0” (Remixed By Mackintosh Braun)

Free MP3 of the Day

If someone asked us to put together a compilation and put it in one of those time capsule things to show future dwellers what dance-rock in the mid-’00s was like, we’d make sure Shiny Toy Guns was on it.

When the band made a splash in 2005 with the cool-kid anthem “Le Disko,” off their GRAMMY-nominated album We Are Pilots, their medley of synth-pop, dance-rock and gritty, electronic sounds quickly attracted fans of all shades of hipster.

Since then, the band followed it up with Season of Poison in 2008 with Sisely Treasure as vocalist and Girls Le Disko, a remix album the year after. Fast forward to 2011, and we find original singer Carah Faye Charnow reuniting with Shiny Toy Guns to record the band’s first song in three years, “The Sun.”

The original track can be downloaded here, but in the meantime we have a very special remix of “The Sun” from pop duo Mackintosh Braun who make emotive, electronic music in the same sonic vein as Junior Boys and Cut Copy.

Like that sound of that? It’s called “The Sun 2.0” and like most music from the Shiny Toy Guns, this is a sure-fire hipster dance hit all the way through.

Sorry, you missed out! This song is no longer available.
