Germany, 1977 – the miracle of Western capitalism has transformed the war torn nation into an emerging economic powerhouse. Underneath the veneer of propserity, however, lies the shame of World War II and a shattered national identity. One band, One Model Nation, inspires a radical youth faction to fight back against a repressive government.
The thing is, the revolutionary German One Model Nation is a fictional band, imagined by Courtney Taylor (of the Dandy Warhols) and Donovan Lietch. It’s unfortunate in that such an amazing band doesn’t really exist, but it’s still a great idea for a band. Part Kraftwerk, part David Bowie, part Tangerine Dream, One Model Nation is an interesting experiment in concept music. What could easily come off as a cheap gimmick is in fact a well honed rock act, as evidenced by tracks like “Mission to Mars.”
