Known for his innovative musical style, Baltimore native Micah Freeman has been making waves in the hip hop community. Seamlessly blending hip-hop and electronic soul, “Racing Hearts (feat. Keithcharles Spacebar)” is a great introduction to Freeman’s musical vision.
“Racing Hearts” is the lead single off of Freeman’s debut album The Timepiece, which is a concept album that chronicles the inter-dimensional journeys of Freeman’s alter-ego character The Time Traveler. On his quest to find “all that is timeless” the Time Traveler makes stops in different musical eras, visiting the high energy synth sounds of 80’s pop and funk and the raw energy of mid-90’s underground rap.
Raised in a multi-cultural household, Micah Freeman has experienced his share of diversity, the traces of which can be found in his music. His father, a Jewish New Yorker, and mother, a Black South Carolinian, exposed him to the sounds of R&B, Soul, Classic Rock, and Funk. His older brother, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/musician, Duane Covert, most noted for his writing for India Arie and Charlie Wilson, certainly had an influence on young Micah. As he spent most of his free time during high school aspiring to be a professional skateboarder, he picked up a few sponsors, including Krew Clothing and Supra footwear at age 19.
