A prolific singer/songwriter who counts more than 20 albums to his credit, Matthew Ryan offers this cut from his latest release on The Dear Future Collective called I Recall Standing As Though Nothing Can Fall.
Citing influences that include Waits, Springsteen and the Waterboys (and sporting a voice not unlike Bono or, say, Peter Murphy), “Hey Kid” is built around a swirling Edge-like guitar pattern and a booming drum track that perfectly underscore Ryan’s poignant lyrics and raspy, ardent voice.
With a resume that includes tours with Lucinda Williams and Kasey Chambers, contributions to major movies (like Edward Burns’ film, Ash Wednesday) and major label contracts, Matthews has had his taste of the limelight.
With “Hey Kid,” the bright lights may well turn on his face once again…and on his terms.
