Don’t let the track name “Shut Up” distract you from listening to the GRAMMY-nominated R&B vocalist’s latest album Pieces Of Me. Ranging from passionate love ballads to gently nudging the edgier rhythms of soul, Ledisi proves that she is an artist to know.
Featuring multiple collaborators including Chuck Harmony, John Legend, Rex Rideout and Claude Kelley, Ledisi’s sixth album is about resilience and the rekindling of lost love. Much like Adele, she hooks you in with her songs about love (“I Miss You Now, “So Into You” and the Jaheim duet “Stay Together”), self-assurance (“Shine”) and ego (“Shut Up” and “Hate Me”) delivered by her ability to funk out and soul up her signature jazz-scatting style. But, if there is one track that everyone is chattering about it’s the album’s title track which recently became Ledisi’s first top 10 hit on the Billboard R&B chart.
Catch Ledisi on her US tour this summer.
