Portraying himself as a “dark Americana artist from Tennessee,” Jeff Zentner melds the musical influence of Townes Van Zant with the narrative influence of Cormac McCartthy to create a hauntingly solemn song called “Promise Me That You Will Never Die.”
Listening to “Promise Me That You Will Never Die,” one can almost picture Zentner in a darkened bedroom, sitting in the corner while plucking a worn-out mandolin, whispering his song, watching his love drift from life to death.
There’s hardly a hint of movement except for the faded lace curtains fluttered slightly by a hesitant breeze and a glaze of dust free-falling onto the neglected glass treasures and untouched coins that sit atop of an ancient wardrobe.
“Promise” comes from Zentner’s debut album, “Hymns To The Darkness.”
