We’ve long maintained that rock and roll and country are two branches spring from the same musical tree, the one that was planted when back porch folk songs met soulful field songs.
J.C. and the Cougars “Constance” is a beautifully written bit of countrified rock and roll that perfectly combines that rock and roll groove with a slight country twang. We hear a lot of influence by one of our favorites, Steve Forbert along with plenty of Johnny Cougar and maybe a little bit of Wilco thrown in for good measure.
We wish we could tell you a little more about J.C. and his crew ‘cuz we really like this tune. But 10 pages of Google search yields neither hide nor hair of him; just articles about college football in Washington. Maybe he’ll ping us and let us know where to find him live.
