It’s been a long five years since we’ve seen a new Incubus album. And after listening to “Promises, Promises” from the group’s brand-new release If Not Now, When? (out today!), it’s clear that the bandmembers have used that time wisely, to give new focus to their music and build on the sound that has brought them such massive appeal.
Incubus has been an “it” band for many years now–and they have the album sales figures and massive fanbase to prove it. They released a number of critically and commercially successful albums, and yet through it all they retained a state of elevated coolness, always seeming to do what they felt was right. Also with each new single, Incubus moved further away from the nu-metal scene with which they were identified early on, settling instead on a more laid-back sound that emphasized their funkier influences.
Now, some two decades into their career, the members of Incubus are gracefully settling into a new phase where they are no longer the loud, young kids. With their usual deft touch, however, on their newest album, they once again pull it off with style.
