Drawing on influences like St. Etienne and Beck, FakeSensations creates a most pleasant Sunday afternoon trip down the sunny lane of melodic pop.

FakeSensations is a one-man poptronica outfit helmed by Londoner Christian Ward, a project he started back in ’03. The following year he released “Selfish Girls Stay Thin” on the Wall of Sound compilation We Love You…So Love Us Three.

Three more albums have followed on Selfish Girl Records: Isaac And The Secret Chord (2007), A Thousand Fathoms Deep (2010) and last year’s eight-cut album, English Democracy.

Today’s Free MP3 of the Day, “Isaac,” comes from the first of those three albums. Painted with a hint of 60s mod (think Village Green-era Kinks) and a definitely British sense of poetry, “Isaac” also reminds us a little of Belle And Sebastian and James Blunt (albeit without the tight-arsed anxiety, we’re happy to report).

File this one under London pop, created to clear away the gray of a foggy morning.
