Today we dig into our catalog and share a Free MP3 of the Day from Eric Lindell, a mega-talented singer, songwriter and guitarist who’s as at home with hippie rockers as he with folks who hang on the blues circuit.
Working as a baker by day and a bass player by night, Lindell struggled to forge his career until age 30, when he moved to New Orleans and connected with some of the city’s blues and soul community. Gigs with drummer Johnny Vidacovich, War‘s Harold Brown and Ivan Neville won his the attention of Alligator Records, where he recorded albums five through seven of his eight album catalog.
Today’s Free Free MP3 of the Day, “Lay Back Down,” comes from his Alligator days: it’s a supreme example of the gorgeous “blue-eyed soul” that’s won Lindell fans from just about every branch of the comtemporary music tree. Whether you’re into Xavier Rudd, Otis Redding or B.B. King, you’ll find something to love about Lindell.
This one is from his second Alligator set, 2008’s Low On Cash, Rich In Love. His latest, on M.C. Records, is called West County Drifter.
