Thanks to her incredible voice alone, Emmylou Harris is a country music legend. The multi-GRAMMY-winning artist has also turned out to be a superb songwriter, as you can hear when you download a copy of “The Road” from Emmylou’s 2011 album Hard Bargain.
Emmylou Harris was famously discovered by Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons, and she recorded a series of haunting, powerful songs with Parsons that are today some of the most iconic country duets of the 1970s.
After Parsons’ death, Harris went on to a long, strong solo career, starting with songs like “Till I Gain Control Again” and “Boulder to Birmingham” and running up through the recent “Red Dirt Girl” and, now, “The Road.” All along the way, her voice, and her songwriting skills, only grew more confident.
“The Road” is from Harris’s 2011 release Hard Bargain, which features 11 Harris originals including three written with Grammy– and Oscar–winning composer Will Jennings.
And though I couldn’t save you and no one was to blame
But the road we shared together once will never be the same
