If you’re a fan of Gil Scott-Heron, you’ll remember his cut “A Message To The Messengers.” That’s the first thing we think of when we listen to vocal intro of E-Dubble‘s “Get On Board.”
Four bars later, Dubble says “My train’s just about to leave the station/I headed somewhere but I now it ain’t vacation” over a brilliant gospel backdrop and we know from where else Dub’s drawn his inspiration: the legendary Impressions of Fred Cash and Curtis Mayfield.
Dub speaks about what is real, about the struggles of being a human midst humanity, about trying to keep your ego in check and your checks in your bank book.
“They told me dumb it down, I told ‘em smarten up/They told me easy pal, I told ‘em ‘y’all are nuts,” he continues, injecting a bit street corner doo-wop into the chorus.
This isn’t the first cut we’ve featured from E-Dubble: we dropped “Night Table” back in November and “Animal” back in October. But this one’s definitely our favorite so far.
Find it on his Freestyle Friday collection.
