We can’t help ourselves. When we heard Tasha Taylor‘s “Queen” for the first time, we fell in love. Now that we’re naming our best R&B songs of the year, we see another chance to profess our affection.
It’s one of those songs that, once you hear it, it follows you everywhere.
Built on a gloriously silky accompaniment of gospel girl harmony and Chi-Lite orchestration, “Queen” demands to be played in the morning, when you’re getting ready to seize the day. It wants to slip into the back pocket of your favorite jeans, the perfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee in the afternoon. It simply demands to be heard at the end of the day (the soundtrack to a little quality time with a glass of wine and a good book).
And, if you’re putting together a romantic mix for a special someone (or a special time with someone special), there’s a good case you’ll be tried for negligence if you don’t include Johnnie Taylor‘s little girl in the flow.
Daddy’s dynamic talent and religiously fervent work ethic is not lost on Tasha: she’s an actor as well as a singer, songwriter and musician whose future will find her in the firmanment of this decade’s R&B superstars.
As we said we when we introduced her a few months back: ” Queen” is “Glorious. Sensual. Soulful. Delightful.”
