We’re going back to the old school with today’s Free MP3 of the Day, a dizzying collison of hardcore political rhymes, authoritarian samples and slithering strings. It’s by Atlas and is called “America Is Dreaming.”
Over a classic west coast beat, Atlas spits out his politically charged rap: “I’m in the jungle steppin over fallen brethren, beasts roaring, hunters on the loose, film at 11,” says the beautiful dreamer.
“The sound of the ground beneath my feet is concrete. Music rising down to meet me from a window a city street,” he says. “Violence and violins it’s mother’s milk to us. We drink it down as we make midnight maneuvers.”
It’s a rhyme that takes no prisoners, rolls off his tongue with no reservations, floats across the beats, interwines with seemlessly with the strings and keybaord notes.
Roll it up into the next mix tape and file it in between Gil-Scott and Snoop.
