Adam James, “Firecrackers”

Not to be confused with the Australian country singer of the same name, this Adam James is a Nashville-based country artist whose music springs from the definitively American values of determination and persistence.

With a college music degree and a work ethic born of his middle-class upbringing, Adam James started his career in Atlanta, working the rock and R&B circuit. Sessions as a sideman reminded James of the music he’d heard growing up, inspiring him to begin honing his craft as a country music singer and songwriter.

Sadly, as he was preparing to record his first album, years of working in smokey bars cost him his voice and forced him back to his hometown for medical attention. After a few weeks of rest and relaxation, James returned to Nashville, determined to lay down his first recording.

This song, “Firecrackers,” is the title cut from those sessions, released in 2009.

Reminding us a little of Lyle Lovett‘s “Private Conversation” melded with the vocal qualities (and snazzy lyrics) of Darden Smith, “Firecrackers” includes a great line that says so much about the determination and persistence James brings to his craft: “the future is a fact you can’t fight.”

For James, that’s a good thing: there’s nothing but great stuff coming up for this great young talent.

Sorry, you missed out! This song is no longer available.
