Label of the Week
Sargent House is a Los Angeles based management company and record label, which formed in 2006. Built with the desire to do things differently, they also operate within the world of licensing, PR as well as housing the label/production company; Rodriguez Lopez Productions, fronted by At the Drive-In/ The Mars Volta co-founder Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
Since beginning as a pet project for Norman Cook in the early 90’s to release bootlegs, party tracks and friends and family records the label has come a long way. Early releases from Norman in his Mighty Dub Katz guise, as well as Freakpower and The Feelgood Factor were the seedlings of what is now known as Fatboy Slim.
Fat Cat’s origins can be dated back to 1989 as a record store in Crawley, UK. Founded by Alex Knight and Dave Cawley, they relocated to London in 1990 and specialized in stocking predominately Detroit and Chicago based Techno and House music.
Narnack Records has become a home for a diversified group of musicians and artists since its beginning in New York City, 2002. Founded by Shahin Ewalt, The label grew organically out of Brooklyn’s underground music scene. It rapidly garnered a reputation for its ability to get new acts on track with artists like Coachwhips, Iran, Langhorne Slim, Thee Oh Sees and Restavrant, and is also known for its work with established bands, such as the legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Fall, Guitar Wolf, and The Slits.
