We know a theme when we see one, a pair of “bird” bands, flocking together for your downloading pleasure (though there’s little more than their names to put them in the same category).
Ah, music. It’s what gets us up in the morning and keeps us going all year long. Since our last Spotlight on holiday music we’ve added some new songs to the site, a handful of which our entire staff has highlighted in their “best-of” features. And, to fuel our lists even further, I’ve assembled my own favorite of–what else–free MP3s.
These picks come from Owen Stretch, the director of content at one of our sister sites, MetroLyrics.com.
To give you an idea of where I was coming from when I put together this MP3.com Best Of 2011 list, I should tell you that right now I’m sitting in an office in Vancouver, Canada. It’s cold in Canada in December (if you haven’t heard), so you might notice my desire for a warm summery beach coming through a bit in my picks.
There are a couple of could-be pool party anthems, a couple ideal road trip songs, and a bunch of overall feel-good music, all of which might be described in one word as “sunny.”
As 2011 draws to a close, we’re wrapping things up by putting together playlists of our favorite songs from the past year. Here are my favorite free downloads we’ve featured this year, all from artists on teh rise with great potential for a successful 2012.
Looking for holiday gift ideas? Well, nothing says “I love you” like a DIY mixtape-style playlist.
From Modern Holiday Songs to Classics Reimagined, in today’s Spotlight we bring you the greatest gift of all: a free playlist featuring MP3.com’s best holiday music all wrapped together and ready for download! Plus, we also throw in a head-banging rendition of “White Christmas” from a former NIN member. Can you guess who?
For anyone planning to open presents this December 25th, we’ve assembled some pop tunes to keep moods merry, to get hips shaking, and to keep Aunt Peggy from slipping in her mix of spiritual music–or any other kind of yawn-inducing songs, for that matter.
For our money, some of the best Christmas songs are the classic Christmas songs and the fun of discovery comes with digging up new interpretations of the “oldies.” Here’s a gift of three free tracks (though we’re still working on tying a ribbon around an MP3).
In anticipation of tomorrow’s announcement of this year’s GRAMMY award nominees, we’ve compiled some of our favorite live performances and interviews from last year’s hottest nominees. Let us know in the comments section if you think any or all of these artists stand to receive recognition this year!
Whether you agree with the Recording Academy or not, the GRAMMY Awards do give closure to the past year in music. And, anytime an indie-name star gets a nod, we can’t help but cheer.
In preparation for the GRAMMY Nominations Concert on Nov. 30th 2011 (10pm ET/9pm CT on CBS), this whole week we’re highlighting GRAMMY Award-winning artists as well our friends who are still GRAMMY-less, plus a few other cool surprises. Did we mention all come with a Free MP3?
For Part 2 of our Thanksgiving Spotlight we’re hooking you up with even more music for the holiday. Here at MP3.com we believe that every occasion deserves a soundtrack, so with that in mind, here is fodder for your Thanksgiving soundtrack.
