Lollapalooza organizers have just made a limited number of “early bird” three day passes available online now, as well as several other ticket packages. The internet has been rife with speculation over this year’s lineup, and some of the rumors have been amazing. One alleged “leak” claimed that the headliners would include Beck, Metallica, Beyonce, the Killers, Sonic Youth, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Another British label to be featured in our Label of the Week series is Oxfordshire based Big Scary Monsters. Started by Kevin Douch when he was in school, the label has built itself a solid reputation of releasing music by a very diverse range of artists that often don’t quite seem to slot into any obvious scene or genre.
We know a theme when we see one, a pair of “bird” bands, flocking together for your downloading pleasure (though there’s little more than their names to put them in the same category).
Ah, music. It’s what gets us up in the morning and keeps us going all year long. Since our last Spotlight on holiday music we’ve added some new songs to the site, a handful of which our entire staff has highlighted in their “best-of” features. And, to fuel our lists even further, I’ve assembled my own favorite of–what else–free MP3s.

To give you an idea of where I was coming from when I put together this MP3.com Best Of 2011 list, I should tell you that right now I’m sitting in an office in Vancouver, Canada. It’s cold in Canada in December (if you haven’t heard), so you might notice my desire for a warm summery beach coming through a bit in my picks.
There are a couple of could-be pool party anthems, a couple ideal road trip songs, and a bunch of overall feel-good music, all of which might be described in one word as “sunny.”
