Yuriy Mynenko was born in the city of Radomyshl (Zhitomir region, Ukraine). In his early years he studied piano and choral conducting. Later he continued his studies at Odessa State Musical Academy named after A.V.Nezhdanova, where he studied solo singing with Associate Professor Yuriy Teterya, first as a baritone and later as a countertenor. After finishing the postgraduate course Yuriy has taught solo singing at the Academy since 2007 till 2010.
Yuriy had successfully participated in many vocal competitions: The All-Ukrainian Competition «The Voice of Ukraine» — laureate (Kiev, Ukraine), The International Slavic Fest — laureate (Paris, France), The XL Francisco Vinas International Singing Contest — special prize «The Best Countertenor» (Barselona, Spain), The III International Competition for young vocalists «Nightingales Fair» named after A.B.Solovyanenko — the first prize (Donetsk, Ukraine), The VI International competition for young opera singers named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov — the second prize (Saint-Petersburg, Russia), International Singing Contest of Italian Opera «Competizione dell'Opera» — finalist and award winner (Dresden, Germany), International competition for opera singers «Cardiff Singer of the World» — finalist (Cardiff, Wales, Great Britain). Yuriy became the first Ukrainian singer and the first countertenor who made it to the final of the Cardiff competition.
Since his time as a student Yuriy regularly performs in Ukraine and abroad — he toured in Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Italy and France as a member of the Choir Capella of the Mechnikov Odessa National University, and gave solo recitals in Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Israel and USA. He performed with orchestras under such conductors as Andrey Reshetin, Vasily Petrenko, Igor Shavruk, Vladimir Dikiy, Roman Kofman, Mikhail Yurovsky, Simon Halsey, Andris Nelsons, Andrea Marchiol, Grant Gershon, Paul Daniel, Dan Ettinger, Diego Fasolis and Alan Curtis.
Among Yuriy’s stage engagements are parts in Baroque and Classical operas and oratorios: Annio in «La Clemenza di Tito» by W.A.Mozart (Rokokotheater, Schwetzingen, Germany), Eustasio in «Rinaldo» by G.F.Händel (Opéra de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland), Corrado in «Griselda» by A.Vivaldi (Santa Fe Opera, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA), David in «David» by F.B.Conti (Maastricht, Kampen, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, Netherlands), alto in «Messiah» by G.F.Händel (Pool, Dorset, Great Britain) and also «Sonnets sur un poème de Louise Labé» by M.A.Dalbavie (Birmingham, West Midlands, Great Britain) — the piece by contemporary composer written especially for countertenor voice.
Yuriy’s future engagements include Ratmir in «Ruslan and Lyudmila» by M.I.Glinka (Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, Russia), Lisimaco in «Temistocle» by J.Ch.Bach (National Theatre Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany), Rinaldo in «Rinaldo» by G.F.Händel (Zurich Opera, Zurich, Switzerland) and Megabise in «L'Artaserse» by L.Vinci, which will be staged in France, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Germany.
