Xan McCurdy is the current lead Guitarist for the band CAKE and has been for the past six years. He joined in 1998 after Greg Brown left. McCrudy started working with CAKE on a record called Prolonging The Magic.
"I just played a lot, took a lot of lessons when I was young ... played in a variety of local bands in Oakland and San Francisco, and one of these bands was one that grew pretty popular. We would play in Sacramento, and we met this band Cake we really liked. ... We really liked Cake, and they were just starting, and couldn't get their foot in the door in the Bay area, so we let them open for us. And then they took off, and did a lot of travel, and we would bump into them on the road ... and then they got signed and we broke up. And not too long after they got signed, their guitar player quit and I joined up. They were always great. They were sort of like an art project early on, very weird. They had a trumpet player. They had a bossy front man that you were still engaged by. They were always really great, they just got tighter every time. "
