Viviane Chichid was born on the Atlantic coast of Senegal. From an early age she loved music and took the chance to sing with bands at the hotels in the local resort. Her big break came in 1993 when she joined the renowned Super Etoile, led by Youssou N'Dour, as a backing vocalist. This gave her the opportunity to travel the world with Youssou, especially accompanying him on the big hit Seven Seconds.
Viviane is married to Boubacar, Youssou's brother and they all work very closely together in the music business in the Xippi studios in Dakar. Viviane can be heard on several tracks on Youssou's 1994 CD The Guide (Wommat) and the 2002 CD Nothing's in Vain.
After 4 years of hard work with 'Super Etoile' Viviane was ready to record her own songs and her first release was Entre Nous (Between Us) with the hit song 'Sama Nene' (My Honey) in 1999. Viviane's next two albums quickly followed on: Nature and Le Show. The latter features her own band, Jolof Band, with whom she was on a world tour in 2001. In 2002 'Yii Gainde', a song from Viviane's new album Tere Nelaw, was nominated for a Kora Award in the Best African Arrangement category.
Viviane went on another busy world tour with her band including a London show.
Her style is very popular with the young generation and the lyrics of her songs give advice for them as she sings about relationships and issues such as AIDS and emancipation.
