Biography

Best known for his virtuosic mastery of the Chapman Stick (an odd-sounding, guitar-like electric instrument), multi-instrumentalist Trey Gunn first came to prominence in the early '90s on recordings with King Crimson mastermind Robert Fripp's Robert Fripp & the League of Crafty Guitarists. In addition to leading his own The Trey Gunn Band, Gun joined King Crimson for their 1995 reunion, still gigging frequently with them into the new millennium. Gun's solo output has largely been recorded for the Crimson-affiliated Discipline label, and runs in the direction of instrumental progressive rock soundscapes, often influenced by ambient music. Gun made his debut as a solo bandleader with 1994's Years (By One Thousand Fingertips), following it two years later with The Third Star. After releasing "Raw Power: Surfacing, Vol. 1" on First World in 1999, Gun resurfaced in 2000 with a new album -- The Joy of Molybdenum -- and a new instrument, the Warr touch guitar. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
