Tom Murphy was born in St. Paul, Minn. while my dad was in medical school and then we moved to Tacoma, Wa. when i was 4. Started playing drums in the 4th grade after being impressed with the drummers in school bands in the Tacoma daffadil parade and got my grandfather to buy me a toy drum on the way home. Then years later after following up my drum schooling in Jr. High and High school he told my parents to try and discoure me from being a musician. Too late!Read More...
Met Richard Cousins in high school and when I went to college in Salem, Ore. a girl friend of Cuz went to U of Or. in Eugene and he dragged Robert Cray down there and we started the band. After getting a degree in psychology went immediately on the road playing where ever we could in those disco days playing the blues. Our crazy friend and manipulater Buddy Ackasich booked us up and down the west coast working the couch circuit (after the gig you get on the mic. and ask the crowd to put us up on their couch). Eventually things snowballed and just as we were making our break and finally making money (after 6 years) we recorded "Who's Been Talkin" . Then my wife who I married because she was pregnant with my kid supposedly when we were 18 died drunk driving and i had to quit the band to take care of our 8 year old kid. DONT'T TRUST WOMEN TO USE BIRTH CONTROL!
I've been playing ever since with some of the greatest blues and funk players in the Tacoma/Seattle/Pugetopolis area but not on the road where I should be. Blues, zydeco, New Orleans second line funk my specialty. Send me an email at:
