The Reducer story started around 1999/2000 when 3 young boys from a small town in Sweden discovered rock n roll music. Kristoffer, Chris and Dave had been friends for a couple of years, as they went to the same primary school in their hometown Vimmerby, in Sweden. It started out as kind of joke, they couldn’t play any instruments, but rock n roll seemed like a fun way to get time going in their boring town. They would play and rehearse at their schools' music-room after school. The other pupils at their school just laughed at them, and rightfully so, they where bad, really bad..Read More...
The laughter didn’t stop them though; they moved on to buy their on instruments and to get a rehearsal room in an old airbomb-shelter under a primary school in Vimmerby. They rehearsed almost every day after school, thrived on rock n roll. Back then after a couple of name changes they decided to call themselves "Perfect Addiction", witch was just what the music was to them; room to breathe, to get their thoughts and anger, boredom and sexuality out to the public in music.
After two demos, Grande Rock and Lost it Long Ago, the group moved on musically, they scrapped the punkish blues rock n roll sound for a heavier stonerrock influenced groove, but still with a touch of their former style. They also hired a bass player, Junior (his real name is Petter). The "new band" named their first real demo Avispa en Espaci;, recorded at HMC studios in Hultsfred with a real studio technician and producer. The result was awesome. They went from really bad to quite good, from useless musicians to experienced.. this was mostly achieved by the intense giging, every weekend a new gig and by every gig they guys grew more confident and also grew musically. They featured on a couple of compilations and got really good reviews. More and more gigs followed, over 40 played gigs over the years.
With the release of the demo "A piece of the fuzz rock delight" in August 2003 the band established themselves as one of the better underground fuzzrock/stonerrock bands in Sweden. After "A piece of the fuzzrock delight", the band felt that their name was outdated and connected them with their old more punkish rock-style, so they renamed themselves to The Reducer. The future for The Reducer looked bright, and in May 2004 they entered Fuzzorama Records studio in Örebro, Sweden, (home to truckfighters, Firestone, Blowback and Asteroid among other great bands) to record their masterpiece, and sadly last record. That demo nearly layed them a deal with a big new record company in Sweden, but when it came to signing the contract, the band felt that the company tried to screw them, not giving them a big share of the money and not letting the band control their own music. They scrapped the deal in the late summer of 2004 and Kristoffer, Dave and a friend of the band, went on to set up their own record label, Backseat Love Records, on witch they released the demo recorded in May 2004, in the end of fall 2004. The demo sold out in 2 months and no repressing where made because of the lack of money, although a repressing was originally planned. In spring 2005 the band set out on their last tour, as support for Swedish fuzzrock underground cult band Truckighters. After the tour the band tried to get a bigger label to re-release their EP, but although a few labels where interested, nothing happened.
All the hard work with the band and their own label had tired the band. They felt that playing wasn’t as fun anymore. They decided to part ways in July 2005. Kristoffer moved to London to work, Chris to Karlskrona (Sweden) to study and Dave later went to France. The only member that remained musically active was Junior, who continued playing with his side project Greenline (www.greenlinemusic.se), now an up-and-coming Singer/Songwriter act in Sweden. Junior also continued to study to become a sound technician, and although not finished yet, he has handled the sound for many smaller and bigger artists in Sweden.
Kristoffer, Dave and Junior regrouped in the summer of 2006 with old pal Daniel Skoglund (a.k.a. Pimp Danny) and formed the dynamic rock band The Power Of Salad & Milkshakes. Although mostly a studioproject, the band gets together once in a while to record new killer tracks and play gigs.
The Reducer released 5 demos, one EP, started their own record label and played over 40 gigs in a time span of about 5 years. Not bad for a couple of small-town guys!
